The values of blood glucose, serum total protein, serum total cholesterol, blood urea nitrogen and serum aspartate aminotransf erase of Korean 2,362 men and 653 women were presented. Measurements were performed during the visit for a regular health check to the Hospital of Korea University from June to September, 1980.
The normal values by mean and standard deviation as well as normal probability graph method of Hoffmann were given.
Obtained results are as follows:
1. The normal values of blood glucose were 84.017.2mg/dl, 85.718.15mg/dl and 78.1 11.46mg/dl for men and women in all, men and women, respectively. The normal values obtained by Hoffmann´s method were 61-105mg/dl, 65-103mg/dl and 57-99mg/dl, correspondingly. Higher blood glucose values in men compared with women appeared all age groups except a group above the age of 60 and the values increased with age above the age group of 20.
2. The normal values of serum total protein were 7.40.47gm/dl, 7.40.48gm/dl and 7.30.44gm/dl for men and women in all, men and women, respectively and the normal values by Hoffmann´s method were 6.4-8.1 gm/dl, 6.3-8.1 gm/dl and 6.3-8.2 gm/dl, correspondingly. There were no significant differences in values between men and women as well as between age groups
3. The normal values of serum total cholesterol of men and women in all, men and women were 181.635.97 mg/dl, 184.236.04 mg/dl and 172.434.12 mg/dl, respectively and the normal values by Hoffmann´s method were 121-260 mg/dl,124-232 mg/dl and 112-230 mg/dl, correspondingly.
Men showed higher serum total cholesterol values than women as a whole, however, the values of women appeared higher than men between the ages 20-29 years. Serum total cholesterol values increased with age except a decrease in a group above the
age of 60 of women.
4. The normal values of blood urea nitrogen were 13.53.22 mg/d1,13. 9-3.25 mg/dl and 12.12.65 mg/dl for men and women in all, men and women, respectively and the normal values by Hoffmann´s method were 7.8-18.2 mg/dl, 8.6-19.0 mg/dl and 7.0-17.2 mg/dl, correspondingly. There were no significant changes with age, however, higher values in men than women appeared between the ages 20-59 years.
5. The normal values of serum aspartate aminotransf erase were 35.217.62 unit, 37.2- 18.54 unit and 28.211.30 unit for men and women in all, men and women, respectively and the normal values by Hoffmann´s method were 15-48 unit, 18-54 unit and 12-45 unit, correspondingly. There were no significant changes with age, however, men showed higher values than women between the ages 20-49 years.
